Small towns in the US: A sampler of current, inspiring USA villages and little towns to thrive in

There are so many charming, likeable small towns in the US to see and live in, I wish there were a way to collect them all into a patchwork quilt of little villages and American communities to wrap myself in.

Instead, here’s a window-shopping sampler of a few of my favorites in Washington State, Oregon, and Arizona.

This sampler will include favorite hamlets and villages with less than 2000 population, as well as townships of 2000 to 20,000 population.

__________

- Anacortes, Washington: Population approximately 16,000. Mild Pacific Northwest climate within “blue hole” -- getting less rain and more sun than Seattle.

- La Conner, Washington: Population approximately 900. Mild Pacific Northwest climate within “blue hole” -- getting less rain and more sun than Seattle

- Port Townsend, Washington: Population approximately 9110. Mild Pacific Northwest climate within “blue hole” -- getting less rain and more sun than Seattle.

- Jerome, Arizona: Population approximately 450. High desert at 5200 feet. Cold winters, warm summers.

- Ashland, Oregon: Population approximately 20,200. All four seasons with winter snow that usually melts the next day -- but snowy mountain nearby.

- Leavenworth, Washington: Population approximately 1970. Mountain village with four very pronounced seasons.

- Tieton, Washington: Population approximately 1600. 4-season desert climate -- hot dry summers, cold winters.

- Sedona, Arizona: Population approximately 10,032. Mild high desert climate -- warm summers, rare snow that melts right away in winter.
